Overview
With the Antenna Timeline tool within this product is a tool for monitoring Satellite Vehicles (SV) and Planning and Executing satellite or antenna activity. I took ownership of the user experience from concept to delivery, ensuring that every design decision is purposeful
β
Almost everyone is connected to satellites in one way or another. Even though we've ditched the antenna on top of the TV, we actually need antennas more. Direct consumer usage has grown from 14% to 23% over the last year itself. That being said, making sure our antennas are in good health is more important than ever
According to Space Force Major, "Without the operators identifying issues and fixing them, and making sure that the site is up and running, nobody would get to talk to the satellites.β Where does this come into play? While maintaining the health of an Antenna is important, something as important is the monitoring and planning when each and every satellite come into contact, given - we are in space.
Discovery
Formulated a redesign strategy that prioritizes a simplified user flow, enhanced data visualization for goal tracking, and new features to foster community engagement among users. Developed a detailed design roadmap, categorizing changes into short-term fixes and long-term enhancements, to guide the redesign efforts effectively.
Alert Fatigue
Both competitive analysis and user research confirm that overwhelming alert systems are a major issue.
Large-scale alerting systems
Lack effective prioritization mechanisms
Unified Data View
Both competitive analysis and user research identify inefficiencies due to fragmented dashboards.

Explorations
Facilitated user testing with a diverse group of app users, gathering insightful feedback on the redesign. This phase was crucial in identifying unforeseen usability issues and validating the effectiveness of the new design elements. Iterative refinements were made based on this feedback, fine-tuning the app's interface to maximize user satisfaction and engagement.
A standard technical approach of a standard chronologically ordered list.

Minimize the lists by antenna. Not entire list

Utilize timeline mental models, not forms

Use a calendar model with customize-able alerts for information you need

Final Improvements and Deliverables
I'd love to spend more time on the timeline visually. During this crunch it became harder to be able to fine tune each detail I'd like to work on. As the first iteration it was important for stakeholders to bring something to the table immediately. There are tools that people from all walks of life use every day. I encourage the use of mental models even for the most complex ideas and designs to approach bridge the gap between people and technology. Overall, Operators reduced the time to diagnose issues by 30% due to streamlined data visualization and prioritized alerts.
